What happened to your drywall?

There are lots of things that can affect drywall such as furniture scuffs, small holes from nails, water damage, cracking, or even your child throwing something at the wall. These are the most common issues of what happens.

Why it needs to be repaired?

Well it’s a pretty simple reason, would you want to have holes in your walls at home? Of course not, so that’s why you patch them. It’s also doesn’t help when it comes to house insulation.

How to fix it?

Well it depends on the size of the hole. Below we have listed some methods on how to fix drywall depending on the hole.

Small Size Hole

If it’s a scrape on the wall from furniture, then you just scrape away loose debris and then apply drywall mud to the small scrape. After it drys, sand and paint the area. For a small hole then you just need to buy a small patch kit and then you apply the patch over the hole, use drywall knife to cover with lightweight joint compound, blend with the wall and sand after its drys. If needed add another layer of compound and repeat the process.

Medium Size Hole

For a medium sized hole in your drywall, cut a separate piece of drywall 2 inches bigger then the hole, score the back an inch away from the sides and take off excess drywall from the back, hold it over the hole and trace it onto the wall with a pencil, cut out what you traced from the wall carefully making sure no wires are behind it, apply compound to the paper on edges on the back of the drywall, then press on wall, finally put compound over the edges and then let dry. Once its dry, sand and paint.

Large Size Hole

For a large hole, looks like we can use the California method again just a bit differently. Cut a piece of drywall slightly larger than the hole, trace it on the wall, cut along the line into the wall, hold small furring strips on two sides of the hole and secure with drywall screws. Set the drywall patch in place and screw to the furring strips, apply joint tape where the cracks are, then compound over the joint tape.
