The Exterior of your home needs love too.
When people think of spring they generally think of spring cleaning the inside of their home. Which is important, but even more important is cleaning and repairing your homes exterior. The winters in Cincinnati can be very brutal to the exterior of your home. It is important to treat the exterior of your home to not only some deep cleaning but to some much needed repairs and maintenance.
So what should you do?
The first thing you should do is conduct a walk around of your homes exterior. Focus on all the wood around your home since wood is most susceptible to the weather. It’s also the most important first line of protection for the inside of your home. If the wood is in bad shape, soon it will cause leaks and water damage inside.
Wood areas of focus:
- Wood trim around doors and windows
- Fascia, rake boards and soffit
- Deck and other wood structures
Tips for repairing
When it comes to the wood trim, fascia, rake boards and soffit we recommend replacing them with PVC board. The reason for this is PVC is a composite material and will not rot. Therefore you shouldn’t have this issue again.
When repairing your deck or other wood structures around your home you will have to use treated lumber especially if the repair is on a structural portion. We also recommend treating these wood structures every 1 to 2 years to prevent rotting.
